Watch Glass: is used in chemistry as a surface to evaporate a liquid, to hold solids while being weighed, or as a cover for a beaker. it does not however completly seal off the beaker so gases can still enter/leave the beaker.
When used as an evaporation surface, a watch glass allows a closer look at  the precipitates or crystallisations, and can be placed on differnt color as the matter being looked at  to improve the visibility overall.
